Jennifer Reyes Lay is a catholic priestess inspired in her call by the life and leadership of Mary the Magdalene (Tower), Mother Mary, and the early Christian women. She is an ecofeminist theologian, ritual leader, preacher, musician and songwriter, poet, facilitator, herbalist, Reiki healer, midwife of justice, and lover of the natural world. She enjoys creating and presiding at specialized rituals to honor particular moments in a person’s life and to honor liturgical seasons, feast days, and earth-based cycles and seasons.

A cradle Catholic, she attended St. Louis University for her undergrad where she received an Honors B.A. in International Studies and Theology with minors in Women’s Studies, Philosophy, and Spanish. This course of study was deeply influence by her study abroad experience in San Salvador, El Salvador at the University of Central America (UCA) where she was first introduced to liberation theology and feminist theology. Following the call to develop her skills for pastoral and ordained ministry, she later graduated with her Master of Divinity from Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO in 2019.

In 2021 Jennifer co-founded Sophia Rising with three other women in St. Louis, MO. Sophia Rising is a collaborative ministry of Christian priestesses rooted in the Divine Feminine and earth-honoring spirituality, working for the healing and liberation of all creation. Stacy Boorn is pastor and lead priestess at herchurch in San Francisco. The community is a Goddess-centered liturgical and programmatic group still holding membership in the ELCA. "We do so to provide a threshold and pathway for those trying to leave forms of patriarchal religion in general but have not yet found a new path."

As an artist, recently with priestesses Jenifer Mantle and Katie Ketchum and others, she has embarked on a journey of creating "her-icons" (images of Goddesses and other holy woman, often with a new twist). This also includes a series 12 paintings of the Christ-Sophia.

As an ordained pastor for nearly 36 years, her experience with traditional formats for interpreting holy words and ritual have been re-worked to reach back to the times of the Goddess and move into Goddess' future.

Spiral Muse is a folk-rock band dedicated to the Sacred Feminine, the wisdom of Mother Earth and the Spirit of fierce compassion rising up during these times. The spiral is an ancient symbol of the Goddess; the Divine Feminine is the group’s muse, the inspiration from which they create. They write and sing about justice and empowerment, the Sacred, love of the Earth and healing from patriarchy.

Spiral Muse has created two original albums, "She is Here" (2014) and "Somebody Calling" (2019), as well as an album of Goddess-infused, social-justice-focused Christmas music, "Sing of Peace" (2015). They are currently recording their fourth album, “Fire of Hope,” which will be released in winter 2024.
